- Log into Noteflight
- Open the Noteflight file with the 4 bar chord progression/bass line - CLICK HERE to open.
- Select all 4 measures and COPY the bass line. (Position your mouse above the middle of the 1st measure until the grey bar appears above the measure. Click on the grey bar, then move your mouse to the last measure. While holding the shift button down, click on the grey bar above the last measure. All of the measure should now be selected. Select COPY from the Edit menu, or push Ctrl-C on the keyboard.)
- Create a new score in Noteflight.
- Select SHARED as the score type.
- PASTE the bass line from your teacher's file into your score. (Click in the 1st measure, then select PASTE from the Edit menu, or push Ctrl-V on the keyboard.)
- DELETE the extra measures that are empty from the end of the score. (Click the grey bar above any of the empty measures and then push DELETE on the keyboard.)
- Using any combination of whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, sixteenth notes, and dotted notes, compose a melody in the treble clef portion of the score. TIPS: try using repetition, simple patterns, rests, and anything else that makes it musical and interesting. Avoid putting in as many notes as possible. Make sure the melody is realistically performable. Ask yourself... would you be able to sing/play your melody? CLICK HERE to view an example composed by Mr. Hall.
- Add a Title to your composition and add your name to the composer field. (Click on (Edit Title) and (Edit Composer) to enter your information.)
- When you're finished, share your composition with your teacher. (Click on the SHARING menu. Select "Anyone can view this score". Then click the copy button to copy the web link for your composition. Paste this link into the Self-Evaluation/Reflection Form listed below.)
